This impressive and large-format tin box is an outstanding document of Portuguese trade history and originates from the company Dominguez & Dominguez Lda which had its headquarters in the historic Rua dos Bacalhoeiros in Lisbon. The tin served for the storage of guaranteed pure paprika powder (Pimentão puro garantido) which was produced in the region Golegã famous for its agriculture and was intended for export as well as the domestic market.
The striking main motif shows a flying eagle carrying a red paprika pod in its beak while the lettering includes detailed information such as the gross weight of 5 kg and the net weight of approx. 4400 g as well as the place of origin of the factory in Golegã. It is an authentic vintage object with an honest patina characterized by scratches in the graphics and rust spots especially on the metal lid which underlines the industrial charm of this rarity.
With its direct reference to the old commercial district of Lisbon and the famous growing region Golegã is this Pimentão Águia tin not only a decorative highlight for kitchens in industrial style but also a valuable collector's item for lovers of international advertising history.
