Products description

A deeply moving and historically significant record of Viennese post war history. This original guestbook of hostess Trude Golda begins on September 23 1945 in the idyllic Viennese suburb of Mauer. In the immediate post war period, the undamaged villa area served as a refuge and cultural meeting place for social evenings, room rentals, and intellectual exchange. Across 52 handwritten pages, a fascinating panorama unfolds containing family greetings, declarations of friendship, and historically important testimonies of the era.

The book features outstanding entries by well known personalities from the Austrian intellectual and cultural scene. These include the signature of the famous Paracelsus researcher and Urania director Franz Strunz as well as a personal pencil drawing by the academic painter and St Stephens Cathedral restorer Egon Weißenbach, addressed to the hostess Trudl. Another gem is a handwritten and signed sheet music page by the Vienna Konzerthaus pianist Professor Ludwig Granzer entitled World Peace. This is complemented by an entry by editor Peter Kuderer and a touching passage reflecting on the war years. The entries span from 1945 through the 1950s and 1960s up to a late entry by an Anna Lindström in the 1970s.

The book measures 21.5 x 30 cm and contains 52 written pages. It is in an authentic, age appropriate good condition with numerous remaining blank pages. A museum quality collector piece for historians, Vienna enthusiasts, autograph collectors, and institutions dedicated to post war history.
