Very rare and well preserved golden "Gupfhaube", also called "Reiche Haube" or "Wiener Haube"; late 18th - early 19th century. century (around 1800); wire-reinforced and richly embroidered; museum quality; the gold cords are somewhat frayed at the end (see photos); the inner lining has slight discolouration (traces of wear); from the Middle Ages onwards, the bonnet was a status symbol for women; from 1889 onwards, the end of dress codes was ushered in and privileged citizens could wear items of clothing previously reserved for the nobility only; thus this Gupfhaube is a fairly early object of the new dress code; traces according to age and use; measurements (see photos); overall dimensions approx. 25 cm high - the rear hairpiece measures 8 x 9 x 17 cm
