Discover an impressive and artfully designed masterpiece of religious folk art, an antique convent work (Klosterarbeit) from the late 19th century depicting Mary Immaculata on the crescent moon. The detailed wax figure of the Mother of God wears a magnificent crown, holds a scepter as well as the Christ Child with the globus cruciger in her arms, and stands on the characteristic crescent moon. The central scene is surrounded by intricate vine tendrils, grapes, and three-dimensional decorative elements, crafted artfully from fine gold wire and fully set with shimmering glass beads.
The ensemble is enclosed in an elegant black wooden frame with a fine gold profile inner trim, measuring approximately 19.3 x 24.6 cm. The object has been professionally restored over time and is in very fine, well-kept condition with age-appropriate signs of wear. An absolute highlight is the backside, which is decorated and pasted with an original, handwritten and dated family letter in the Hungarian language from December 22, 1930. This historical Hungarian letter gives the sacred devotional picture a deeply personal provenance and makes it a true one-of-a-kind piece for collectors.
