Products description
This elegant Art Deco brooch is an authentic piece of jewelry from the period around 1920 to 1930. The centerpiece is a rare cabochon made of green Peking glass. This special glass is characterized by its semi-transparent milky appearance that looks deceptively similar to jade and shimmers wonderfully in the light. The central stone is flanked by 2 stylized fan-like leaves made of sterling silver, which are finely engraved and give the piece a filigree lightness. The brooch is clearly stamped Sterling on the reverse and is in excellent antique condition with a beautiful patina that nicely highlights the details of the engraving. With its dimensions of approx. 3.5 x 0.5 cm and a weight of 2.3 g, it is a subtle yet effective accessory that perfectly embodies the elegance of Art Deco.
Green Peking glass is a handmade art glass that was originally developed in the 17th century in the imperial workshops of China to imitate precious jade. However, this material experienced its heyday in the West during the Art Deco period, when there was an enormous enthusiasm for Far Eastern motifs and materials (Chinoiserie). Unlike simple glass, real Peking glass is often cut or ground and is valued as an independent art form due to its opaque to semi-transparent quality and complex production; signs of use appropriate for its age.
