This original lithograph depicts Baron Andreas Mariássy von Markus und Batisfalva (1766–1846) in a detailed portrait with a rectangular image section. The sheet was created by Josef Kriehuber, one of the most famous Austrian lithographers of the 19th century, who was renowned for his precise portraits of nobles, military figures and artists. Andreas Mariássy came from the Hungarian aristocracy and had an impressive military career in the Austro-Hungarian Army. He was Field Marshal and Imperial Privy Councillor and rendered great services during the Napoleonic Wars, including at the Battle of Aspern and in later campaigns. He received numerous awards for his loyalty and strategic abilities and held important offices in the Austrian Empire. The inscription below the portrait reads: ‘ANDREAS FREYHERR von MARIASSY von Markus und Batisfalva k.k. General Field Marshal and owner of the k.k. Hungarian 32nd Line Infantry Regiment etc. etc. etc.’ This lithograph is an authentic testimony to Habsburg military history and a special collector's item for lovers of historical portraits.
