Products description

A historically highly interesting and noble cigarette case made of solid 900 silver, which impresses with its elegant grooved Art Deco design and its unexplained military past. This fine collector's item originates from Austria, which is documented by the characteristic hoopoe official hallmark and the 900 stamp for 900 silver on the inner rim. Furthermore, there is a maker's mark suggesting a "V.K". Both parts of the tabatiere have been stamped. While the exhibit shows a classic, timeless elegance on the outside, the interior surprises with a magnificent, flawless fire gilding as well as an artistically pierced elastic silver bar to hold the cigarettes in place. The absolute highlight for collectors and historians, however, is the mysterious engraved inscription inside a prominent triangle on the left inner side, which reads: A AUG 1940 GRUPPE B III P. In specialist forums, this piece sparks passionate discussions and poses fascinating riddles, as it could be a high-ranking gift or memento from the period of the Second World War.

The assumptions of the experts range from an assignment to the 3rd Panzer Army and its operations in the French campaign, to a coded Luftwaffe flying unit during the Battle of Britain, up to an internal identification of a logistical or strategic Group B in August 1940. These theories have not yet been conclusively researched, which lends the shiny object with dimensions of approx. 8 x 12 cm an aura of mystery and offers the future owner room for their own historical research. A masterfully crafted and historically exciting exhibit. The case brings an impressive weight of a proud 184 grams to the scale. Signs of wear corresponding to age.
