Ant spirit

Two rare and old bottles of ant spirit from the first half of the 20th century - ant spirit was used in traditional folk medicine and applied to rheumatism and gout; the ants were collected and processed into ant spirit (tincture of ama); already in the 17th century there was a profession of "ant doctor". Already in the 17th century there was a profession called "Ameisler" and at the beginning of the 20th century the "Amasdoktor" was called "Kurpfuscher"; the bottles are both still well filled (approx. 60 % and 80 % full); the medicine smells strongly like today's sports ointments; signs of use corresponding to the age (see photos);
