Products description

Discover an extraordinary piece of medical history for collectors: an antique high-frequency treatment apparatus by Omega in its original transport case. The set fascinates with its extensive contents, including the control unit with a rotary dial from 0 to 5 and the marking Earth-free, the original fabric cable with handpiece, and a total of 11 differently shaped glass electrodes (including a comb electrode, surface electrode, and special attachments). Also included in the scope of delivery are an original description from the Omega company, a small accompanying catalog from Engadina, and 5 historical postcards featuring curious photo motifs on light and radiation therapy. The case dimensions are approx. 25.5 x 31.5 x 11.5 cm.

Positioned between medical research and quackery, these electricity-based devices were grounded in the work of Tesla and d'Arsonval. From the 1920s onward, high-frequency appliances were marketed as universal remedies, as it was believed that the electrical currents directly supplied the body with vitality and strengthened every cell. The Bakelite handle with the inserted glass attachments and the mystical violet light glowing during operation reinforced the impression of a miracle device. This ensemble is in very clean as-found condition with age-appropriate signs of wear and is sold explicitly untested as a historical decorative object and museum piece. Function not tested!
