Products description

This rare and exceptionally detailed anatomical model of the human tongue is a fascinating teaching aid from the middle of the 20th century. The model was crafted from a special rubber-like plastic and cast in one piece with the black base, giving it particular stability. The hand-painted surface shows a precise anatomical representation of important structures of the oral cavity. Clearly visible are the various lingual papillae on the back of the tongue as well as the large vallate papillae (Papillae vallatae) at the posterior part of the tongue, which form the V-shaped border to the root of the tongue. On the sides and in the posterior area, the palatine tonsils are highlighted. The model also allows a view of the muscular structure of the tongue root and the surrounding glandular tissues.

The design and material suggest a production in the 1950s. Although no manufacturer logo is present, the quality of the painting and the anatomical accuracy indicate a high-quality institutional tool. With its dimensions of approx. 16 x 18 x 10 cm, the object has an impressive presence and is excellently suited as an exclusive decorative piece for a modern medical practice or as a highlight in a sophisticated cabinet of curiosities collection. The authentic preservation and the vibrant colors make this medical model a rare find for lovers of historical natural sciences. Small chips, dents, some superficial abrasion, old storage marks; overall beautiful original condition; signs of use appropriate for its age (see photos).
