Products description
This rare and historically fascinating seal capsule dates back to the heyday of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy under Emperor Franz Joseph I (1870 to 1910). The flat round box with an outer diameter of approx. 4.6 cm (inner approx. 4 cm) and a height of approx. 0.8 cm was made of fine cardboard and covered with vibrant red paper. The lid features a magnificent gold relief embossing of the imperial double-headed eagle with the imperial crown and the personal motto VIRIBUS UNITIS. Such caskets were used in imperial chancelleries and offices to protect valuable wax seals on certificates and documents. The object is in remarkably good and authentic condition with a beautiful age-appropriate patina.
A wonderful collector's item for lovers of Habsburg history and historical paper and chancellery culture. Signs of wear corresponding to age. The object is offered without a display.
